I could not choose any particular word to describe how cool this little robot is. His name is Pleo. He was engineered by a group of robotics specialists, animators, technologists, scientists, biologists, and programmers. He is a proof of how advanced robitics industy is in 21st century.He is also a milestone in software engineering development. He is designed to emulate the appearance and behavior of a week-old baby Camarasaurus. He will learn from its experiences and environment through a sophisticated artificial intelligence and develop an individual personality.
He has emotions and awareness to his environment. He can lay down, and he can shake hands with you. He can sing and hear you. He is sometimes happy and surprised. At times he will be sad and vexed. The way they build that robot is impressive.. but he doesn't look nice.. I think they should have build Cat or something that look cool :)
Yes,I think they should choose to build a cat or a dog since they are more like a real pet.
But appearance wise, we are all used to some 3D designs creations which are really cool. That probably sets our expectation of how Pleo should look. So in this aspect, I think this robot is still a work in progress. In fact, everything related to creating this pet is, in my opinion, still a work in progress.
